Organisers of RIYE U15 Athletics Circuit have expressed satisfaction with the standard and quality of performances seen in Egba Zone of the competition in Ogun State.
Sports247 gathered that the competition, which is a brainchild of Tunde Delu Initiative, churned out stunning results on Monday at MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta.
The competition’s director of media and communications, Bayo Adegboyega disclosed that it was a highly exciting and revealing contest that produced many future stars for Nigeria.
He revealed further that a plethora of young athletes from Egba Zone jostled for places in the grand finale from a total of 18 schools that lined out for the qualifiers, including International Sports Academy, owned by ex-international footballee, Chief Segun Odegbami.
Other prestigious schools in attendance included Abeokuta Grammar School, Salawu Abiola Comprehensive High School, Reverend Kuti Memorial Anglican School, Greenland Academy, Well Watered Schools and Lafenwa High School, among many others.
Adegboyega disclosed in a press release, “The competition began with the screening of athletes before action shifted to the track and field events, where the top two finishers in each event secured qualification for the grand finale scheduled for June 26.
“In the boys’ 100 metres, Adigun Noah emerged victorious with a time of 11.56 seconds, while Ehisanya Success finished second in 11.81 seconds to also qualify for the final.
“The girls’ 100 metres saw Elekede claim first place in 12.42 seconds, ahead of Adegbite Ikmot, who crossed the finish line in 12.72 seconds.
“In the boys’ shot put, Adesanya Ayanfe and Adegbesan Success secured the top two positions, while Olowobese Seyi and Odesanya Oyinkansola qualified from the girls’ shot put event.
“Adigun Noah continued his impressive outing by winning the boys’ 200 metres to book another place in the grand finale, with Oyeniran Lukman finishing second.
“The girls’ 400 metres event was won by Gogo Eunice, while Balogun Dorcas finished second to qualify for the final. In the boys’ category, Adebayo David and Lasisi Adisa claimed the top two positions.
“The long jump event also produced its finalists, as athletes competed fiercely for qualification spots. Awesu Abdulwahab and Olatunji Jomiloju took the first and second spots in the Boys’long jump, while Oyelaja Ayowande and Okewole Olamide emerged the winner and runner up in the girls’ long jump.”
Sports247 reports further organiser of the competition, Honourable Tunde Delu expressed satisfaction with the turnout of schools, athletes and spectators, then commended all participants for their enthusiasm and competitive spirit.
Delu also expressed optimism ahead of the remaining zonal qualifiers scheduled for Ilaro, Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode, even as he added that the initiative is aimed at discovering and nurturing young athletics talents across Ogun State.
He concluded by stating confidence that the competition will produce future champions, as he looked forward to more top performances during the remaining zonal qualifiers, before culminating in the grand finale at MKO Abiola Sports Arena.
