Defending champions Rangers International FC finally recorded their first victory of the EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season after completing a comeback against Nasarawa United FC in a match that had to be suspended due to heavy rainfall.
Sports247 reports that the Matchday 3 encounter, played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, Imo State, was initially halted at the 63rd minute on Thursday after a heavy downpour severely affected visibility and the playing conditions.
At the time of the suspension, both sides were locked at 1-1. Nasarawa United had taken the lead in the 39th minute through Sunday Dapman, but Rangers responded almost immediately as Iwundu Chidozie restored parity just two minutes later in the 41st minute.
With the weather conditions making it impossible for play to continue safely, the match officials officially suspended proceedings.
The game resumed on Friday morning with Rangers determined to complete the turnaround and claim maximum points.
The defending champions eventually got their reward in the 82nd minute when Daniel Itodo found the decisive goal to put Rangers ahead and secure a 2-1 victory.
The result marks Rangers’ first win of the 2026/27 NPFL campaign and provides an important boost for the defending champions after their opening fixtures.
Having initially trailed Nasarawa United before recovering to level the scores, Rangers demonstrated their resilience by returning the following morning and producing the decisive moment that settled the contest.
For Nasarawa United, the defeat will be a frustrating outcome after they had taken the lead and remained level with Rangers when the match was suspended.
For Rangers, however, Itodo’s 82nd-minute strike ensured the defending champions finally had their first three points of the season.
The victory also brings an unusual chapter to an early-season NPFL fixture, with the game effectively stretching across two days because of the adverse weather conditions.
Rangers will now look to build on the result as they continue their title defense, while Nasarawa United will turn their attention to their next league assignment.
