For the teenage swimmer, representing Nigeria at the Youth Olympic Games is more than just another competition; it is the fulfilment of a dream he has carried since childhood.

“Representing Nigeria at the Youth Olympics has been my dream and my main goal as a junior swimmer. It’s something I set for myself at a very young age,” he told WSG Events.

His journey from competing at the World School Games in Dubai to reaching the Youth Olympic Games highlights the progress he has made through years of dedication, commitment and hard work.

In Dakar, Dumuje-Abili has already competed in the men’s 100m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke events, gaining valuable experience against some of the world’s promising young swimmers.

However, his participation in the competition is not over, as he is still scheduled to feature in the men’s 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly events.

The remaining races present further opportunities for the Nigerian teenager to showcase his abilities, improve his international experience and continue learning at an elite junior level.

At 15, Dumuje-Abili’s swimming journey is still in its early stages, but his steady progression and determination to represent Nigeria on the international stage offer encouraging signs for the future of the sport.

From his first international appearance at eight to competing at the Youth Olympic Games, the young swimmer is proving that big dreams can begin early.
