Plateau United head coach Gbenga Ogunbote has expressed disappointment with his side’s performance after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Warri Wolves in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 11 encounter.
Sports247 reports that the experienced tactician described the result as an unfortunate outcome, blaming anxiety among his players for their inability to secure maximum points at home.
Warri Wolves took the lead in the 24th minute through Emmanuel Aribogha, putting the visitors in a favourable position and leaving Plateau United with the responsibility of chasing the game.
The hosts eventually responded in the 60th minute when Samuel Ayanrinde found the back of the net to restore parity and give Plateau United a lifeline.
Despite their fightback, the home side could not find a winning goal, settling for a share of the points in front of their supporters.
Speaking after the encounter, Ogunbote admitted that his players failed to deliver the expected performance, pointing to anxiety and poor execution as major factors behind the disappointing result.
“I think it was an unfortunate one, a lot of anxiety on the part of the players. Unfortunately, we got it all wrong. This is a big loss,” Ogunbote said.
The Plateau United manager’s reaction reflected his frustration at dropping points at home, particularly after his team had worked hard to recover from the first-half deficit.
For Warri Wolves, the draw represents a valuable result away from home, while Plateau United will be left to reflect on another missed opportunity to claim maximum points.
Ogunbote and his players will now need to address the issues identified in the performance as they look to improve their results in the remaining fixtures of the NPFL campaign.
