A young boy named Ismaheel Taofeek once made a promise to his coach on the dusty football fields of Lagos, where dreams often begin with worn-out boots and makeshift goalposts.

Years later, after conquering Poland with Lech Poznań, he returned to fulfill it.
Fresh from helping Lech Poznań win the 2025/26 Ekstraklasa title and secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League, the 23-year-old Nigerian winger stunned his grassroots coach, Timilehin Hammed, popularly known as “Mr Producer,” with a brand new Lexus RX 330 SUV.
But for those who know their story, the gift was more than a luxury car. It was the completion of a journey that started long before the stadium lights, trophies, and European football headlines.
Coach Timilehin still remembers the first day Taofeek arrived at Pumah FA as a seven-year-old boy with big dreams and endless energy.
“I always knew he was special,” the coach recalled emotionally. “Even as a child, he had this determination that separated him from others.”
Back then, nobody could have imagined that the same boy running barefoot on community pitches would one day become a league champion in Europe. But Taofeek never forgot where it all started.
According to Coach Timilehin, the promise came years ago during one of their conversations.
“He told me that the first type of car he would buy for me would be the same one he drove himself — a Lexus RX 330,” he said.
“Honestly, I thought it was just one of those things young players say. But he remembered.”
And he did more than remember.
The emotional moment became reality when Taofeek handed over the keys to the luxury SUV, leaving his longtime mentor overwhelmed with gratitude.
“All I could do was pray for him,” the coach said with a smile. “And his response touched me deeply. He simply said, ‘Sir, you deserved it.’”
For many football fans online, the story quickly became more than a celebration of success. It became a reminder that gratitude still exists in modern football.
At a time when many young stars move on from their beginnings, Taofeek chose to look back and honor the man who helped shape his path.
Coach Timilehin also used the moment to appreciate the chairman of Future Pro, Mr. Lekan Adekunle, for continuously supporting grassroots football and believing in both him and his players.
“I appreciate Mr. Lekan Adekunle for trusting me and the talents coming from our academy,” he added.
Across social media, reactions poured in from fans and football lovers praising Taofeek for staying connected to his roots despite his growing success abroad.
Many described the gesture as inspiring, while others called it one of the most heartfelt football stories to emerge from Nigeria this year.
For Ismaheel Taofeek, however, it may simply be about loyalty — loyalty to the coach who believed in him before the world noticed.
From the dusty streets of Lagos to the top of Polish football, his journey continues to inspire countless young players chasing impossible dreams.
And somewhere in Lagos today, a grassroots coach drives a Lexus not because of luck, but because one little boy kept his word.
