ANOCA Delegation Set to Inspect Abuja Facilities Ahead of 2027 African School Games

The National Sports Commission (NSC) is set to receive a high-level delegation from the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) as preparations intensify for the successful hosting of the 2nd African School Games, Abuja 2027.

The official inspection visit, scheduled for June 9 and 10, 2026, is aimed at assessing Nigeria’s readiness to host the continental multi-sport event, which is expected to bring together young athletes from across Africa.

According to the NSC, the ANOCA delegation will evaluate key competition venues, athlete facilities, logistics arrangements, and organizational plans ahead of the 2027 Games.

Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to delivering a world-class tournament that will showcase Africa’s young sporting talents and strengthen unity across the continent.

“Nigeria is committed to delivering an exceptional African School Games that will showcase the talent, unity, and aspirations of young athletes across Africa,” Olopade stated.

He further described the inspection visit as a major opportunity for Nigeria to demonstrate the progress already made in preparations for the event.

“The ANOCA inspection visit provides an important opportunity to demonstrate the significant progress made in our preparations and to strengthen our partnership towards hosting a memorable event in 2027,” he added.

The programme will begin with a meeting between the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and the ANOCA delegation at the ANOCA Secretariat in Jabi, Abuja.

The delegation is also expected to meet with the leadership of the National Sports Commission at the Chairman’s Office inside the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, where discussions will focus on infrastructure development, athlete welfare, logistics, and Nigeria’s broader vision for the Games.

On the second day of the visit, the ANOCA officials will undertake a detailed inspection tour of major sporting facilities earmarked for the competition.

The inspection will cover:

Main Bowl Stadium

Training Pitches

Velodrome

Indoor Sports Hall

Swimming Pool Complex

Gymnasium Hall

Hockey Pitch

Tennis Courts

Cricket Pitch

Baseball Pitch

and the Abuja 2027 LOC Secretariat.

The delegation will also inspect the International Conference Centre Abuja, which has been designated for official meetings and conference activities linked to the Games.

The tour will conclude at Jabi Lake, one of Abuja’s major recreational and tourism destinations.

The National Sports Commission expressed confidence that Abuja possesses the infrastructure, hospitality, and organizational capacity required to successfully host one of Africa’s biggest youth sporting events.

The 2027 African School Games is expected to further strengthen Nigeria’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading destinations for major international sporting competitions.
