Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed that working under Carlo Ancelotti at Everton was a very different experience compared to his time with Arsène Wenger at Arsenal.
Reflecting on the contrast between the two coaches, Iwobi explained that Ancelotti was less hands-on in daily training sessions.
“Carlo was different,” he said.
According to the Nigerian international, much of the responsibility during training at Everton was handled by Ancelotti’s son and assistant, Davide Ancelotti.
“Davide handled most sessions,” he implied.
Iwobi revealed that Carlo often observed from the sidelines and became more directly involved closer to matchdays.
“He usually stepped in a day or two before games,” he noted.
The midfielder contrasted this approach with Wenger’s style at Arsenal, where the French manager maintained a more active role in training and player development.
“Wenger was more hands-on,” he added.
For Iwobi, the experience highlighted how different managerial styles can still produce effective environments.
“Every coach has their own way,” he stressed.
He also emphasized that Ancelotti’s calm presence and experience brought confidence to the squad.
“You could feel his influence,” he said.
Having worked under two respected coaches, Iwobi believes adapting to different philosophies has helped him grow as a player.
“It teaches you a lot,” he concluded.
For Iwobi, the message is clear.
There’s no single formula for success.
Different approaches can still bring results.
Because in football, leadership comes in many forms—and great managers all leave their mark differently.
