President of the newly inaugurated Nigeria Netball Federation, Toyin Aluko, has revealed ambitious plans to revive and develop netball in the country, with the long-term target of competing at the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
Speaking on the federation’s vision, Aluko explained that strategic structures are already being put in place to build a strong domestic framework for the sport.
“We are building from the ground up,” she said.
According to her, the federation’s priority is to establish a sustainable local system capable of producing competitive athletes and teams.
“We need a strong foundation,” she implied.
Aluko stressed that reviving netball in Nigeria will require organization, grassroots development, and long-term planning.
“The sport will return strongly,” she noted.
Beyond participation, the federation president made it clear that Nigeria’s ambitions extend to competing for medals on the international stage.
“We want podium finishes,” she added.
For Aluko, the Commonwealth Games represent both a target and a motivation for the federation’s development plans.
“We are thinking long-term,” she stressed.
She also emphasized the importance of collaboration, investment, and awareness in helping the sport grow nationally.
“We need support,” she said.
As the newly formed federation begins its work, attention will now shift toward implementation and grassroots expansion.
For Aluko, the message is clear.
Build the structures.
Develop the athletes.
And aim high.
Because every successful sport begins with vision, and Nigeria’s netball journey is just starting.
