Team Nigeria added another glittering chapter to its impressive outing at the African U18 & U20 Championships as Chioma Nwachukwu delivered a golden performance in the U18 Women’s 400m final on Thursday.
Chioma Nwachukwu produced a dominant run from lane 4, taking control of the race from the gun and never looking back. She stopped the clock at a blistering 52.47 seconds — a commanding time that saw her unchallenged across the finish line.

Her compatriot, Hafsoh Majekodunmi, gave the home fans more reason to celebrate as she raced to second place in 54.43s, ensuring a Nigerian 1-2 finish in front of a jubilant Abeokuta crowd. The silver medal was not only a personal triumph for Majekodunmi but also a moment of national pride, especially competing on home soil.
Ethiopia’s Bisset Bikes claimed the bronze medal in 55.31s, rounding out the podium in a race that showcased the depth of talent in African sprinting.
