Uchenna Njoku Cherishes Clinching Silver Medal In NNL Super-4 As Captain Of Inter Lagos FC

Inter Lagos FC’s captain, Uchenna Njoku is cherishing his ability to lead the team in clinching runners-up spot at this year’s Nigerian National League (NNL) Super-4 in Ikenne, Ogun State, Sports247 reports.

A 1-0 victory over local rivals, Sporting Lagos, on the last day of the competition at Remo Stars Stadium, was not enough to give his team top spot, but Njoku said second place was a big consolation for them.

He, however, pointed out that the bigger joy for him is that the club gained promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) during his time as captain of the team.

The fast-paced right-side winger, who hails from Imo State, took a look back at his career so far and disclosed in an exclusive interview with Sports247 that his time with Inter Lagos has become the most memorable for him.

“I grew up in Imo State, and that’s where I started my football career. I travelled outside for some years, before I returned and joined Calabar Rovers.

“I also played for Papilo FC and Heartland of Owerri before I joined Inter Lagos. I have spent three seasons with Inter Lagos, and it’s the first time that I will captain a team.

“I am happy to be their captain during the time they got promoted to the Premier League. It’s not been difficult, because they all support me very well,” Njoku disclosed.

He concluded by thanking the club’s officials and coach of the team, Shakiru Giwa, for trusting him to lead the team, while also according to him respect due to the many years of experience he has in the round leather game.

“I thank the coach and management for the privilege they gave me to captain the team. The recognition was mostly because I’m the most experienced player in the club.

“All the coaches and officials give me a lot of respect, and they always make me happy. That’s why I also respect them, and I give them what they want when it matters most.

“That’s why I’m here today with the team, and I’m their leader of the field. I also hope to lead them well next season in the Premier League,” Njoku projected.
