President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially approved Nigeria’s proposed hosting of the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the prestigious CAF Awards, marking another major step for the country on the continental football stage.
The announcement was made during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a high-level meeting between the Nigerian leader and Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, CAF President’s Special Adviser Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly, scheduled for October, will bring together key stakeholders in African football, including presidents of CAF’s 54 Member Associations, representatives from the six zonal unions, and top football administrators from across the continent.
The event is regarded as one of the most important gatherings in African football governance, where strategic decisions concerning the development and future of the game on the continent are discussed.
Nigeria’s approval to host the event is seen as another strong indication of the country’s growing influence within African football administration.
In addition to the General Assembly, Nigeria is also set to host the CAF Awards ceremony—CAF’s glamorous annual event celebrating the continent’s top football stars, coaches, teams, and administrators.
The awards ceremony has become one of African football’s biggest nights, attracting global attention with its blend of football excellence, entertainment, and celebration of African talent.
Hosting both events is expected to boost Nigeria’s profile within continental football while also creating opportunities for sports tourism, business engagement, and international visibility.
