Team Nigeria has departed for Gaborone, Botswana, ahead of the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III Qualifier, scheduled to hold from July 13 to 18.

The Nigerian contingent heads into the continental competition after several weeks of intensive preparations, with the players aiming to secure qualification and enhance the country’s reputation in international women’s tennis.
Sports247 reports that the squad comprises Oyinlomo Quadre, Khadijat Mohammed, Etoro Bassey, and Success Ogunjobi, while experienced coach Rotimi Akinloye will serve as team captain.
Having concluded an intensive training camp in Nigeria, the team departed for Botswana on Friday to continue the final phase of preparations before the competition gets underway.
The Billie Jean King Cup, regarded as the women’s equivalent of the prestigious Davis Cup, is the world’s largest annual international women’s team tennis competition, bringing together nations from across the globe in pursuit of international honours.
Nigeria will be looking to build on its recent progress in tennis, with the likes of Seun Peter Ogunsakin and other emerging talents highlighting the country’s growing presence on the international stage.
With a blend of experience and youthful determination, Team Nigeria is expected to battle strongly against other African nations as they seek promotion from the Africa Group III competition.
