Seyi Akinwunmi Urges Lagos Clubs To Take Pre-Season Serious

The Executive Chairman of, Lagos State Football Association, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, has disclosed that the EkoFootball NNL Preseason tournament, is an opportunity for Lagos NNL teams to be well equipped to play in the new season so as to gain promotion to the NPFL.

He noted that Lagos has lots of good players to play in the top league and urged the clubs to treat players well at all times.

“This is the chance to tell the country that you are getting ready for the NNL challenge, admonished the teams to put in their best and pay less attention to referees, but prepare very well for the challenges ahead. The opening game on January 19: Otasolo vs Joy Comet. January 20: Ikorodu City vs Lagos Sporting.” said Seyi Akinwunmi

It will be recalled that Vandrezzer FC won the 2021 Winners Golden Bet-sponsored Lagos State Challenge Cup after defeating hard fighting Box to Box FC by a lone goal.

Olalekan Abdulsalam scored the lone goal in the 80th minute for Vandrezzer in the match played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

The Nigeria National League (NNL) side defeated Jo Sportyme 1-0 in regulation time as well as 36 Lions FC 6-5 on penalties in the round of 16.

Vandrezzer FC, which relocated from Akwa Ibom to Lagos in the last two seasons also spanked the Messiah FC 2-0 in the quarter-finals before defeating last season’s runners-up, Smart City FC, 6-2.

Meanwhile, * Eight clubs to compete. -Total 25 players to be registered by each club. * Two groups of four clubs each. Five NNL clubs and three Lagos FA clubs. * Two matches to be played each match day at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. All the teams will play a total of three matches each before going into the semi-final stage. *Group A matches start on January 19, while Group starts on January 20. *All matches will be played at the Teslim be Balogun Stadium. *The essence of the competition is to get a Lagos team to the NPFL. *Participating clubs are five NNL Clubs: Vandrezzer, Ikorodu City, Sporting Lagos City, Joy Comet, Otasolo. And three Lagos FA clubs:- Smart City, G12, and Box2Box. *Semi-Finals hold on January 27 and the grand finale is on January 29.
