Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has revealed how detailed discussions with his agent convinced him to embrace a new challenge at Turkish club Bursaspor, explaining that the club’s history, ambition and seriousness during negotiations played significant roles in his decision, Sports247.ng reports.
The Nigerian international, who had the opportunity to continue his career at Scottish giants Celtic, disclosed that he deliberately avoided becoming distracted by transfer speculation, choosing instead to concentrate on his football while representatives handled negotiations.
“I really tried to concentrate on my football, and the transfer talks were done with the agents and the directors,” Iheanacho explained.
“Of course, I am aware of the transfer talks and all that. I was told by my agent that Bursaspor were in contact.”
The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker revealed that his representative provided comprehensive information about the Turkish club’s sporting project, history and intentions, helping him understand what the proposed move could offer his career.
“He really explained everything to me in detail. I was happy, and I said, ‘Yeah, I think it’s a good and interesting place,'” he stated.
Iheanacho explained that the seriousness of the negotiations eventually convinced him that the move was worth pursuing, particularly after carefully examining the contractual arrangements and the club’s plans.
“We went through everything together, and we saw that it was a very serious and concrete contract and situation,” he revealed.
The Nigerian forward also highlighted Bursaspor’s football heritage as an important attraction, expressing confidence that the club offered an environment where he could enjoy his football and contribute meaningfully.
However, Iheanacho admitted that completing the transfer was not entirely straightforward, with negotiations taking longer than initially anticipated.
“We delayed a little bit, to be fair, but at the end, here we are now, enjoying every moment of it,” he added.
His revelations underline the importance of professional guidance and careful decision-making in modern football transfers, particularly for experienced players navigating significant career transitions.
For Iheanacho, the focus has now shifted from negotiations to performances as he looks to make his mark in Turkish football.
