Former Flying Eagles player Kennedy Chinwo has urged newly appointed Flying Eagles coach Abdu Maikaba to immediately establish a strong scouting programme capable of discovering fresh talents across the country.
Speaking on the future of the Nigeria U-20 team, Chinwo described talent discovery as one of the biggest responsibilities facing the new manager.
“This is a major challenge for him,” he said.
According to the former youth international, Nigeria remains blessed with talented young footballers who are simply waiting for the right opportunities to be discovered and developed.
“There are vibrant talents everywhere,” he implied.
Chinwo stressed that proper scouting is essential if the Flying Eagles are to remain competitive internationally.
“You must search properly,” he noted.
He also warned against relying on familiar names or short-term selections, insisting that youth football success depends heavily on uncovering new prospects.
“The future comes from fresh talents,” he added.
Beyond scouting, Chinwo called on the Nigeria Football Federation to prioritize proper preparation for tournaments.
“Preparation is very important,” he stressed.
He argued that coaches cannot be expected to perform miracles when teams are assembled late ahead of major competitions.
“Coaches are not magicians,” he said.
Nigeria’s youth teams have faced criticism in recent years over poor planning and inconsistent performances, increasing pressure on the new technical crew.
For Chinwo, the message is clear.
Scout aggressively.
Prepare early.
And build properly.
Because successful youth football begins long before the tournament starts.
