Rohr give thumbs up to CAF for AFCON postponement

The Confederation of African Football, CAF has earlier announced the COVID-19 enforced decision which is to postpone the AFCON 2021 for January 2022 in Cameroon. The decision was made because the time may just be too short for footballing activities since the calendar has already been unavoidably tempered with, no thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Chief coach of the super eagles, Gernot Rohr has given a thumbs up to the football governing body for the move and that it could not have been postponed to the summer. “I think this is a wise decision because time is very short now, and they could not postpone to the summer,” Rohr said.

The German tactician expresses joy as he claims that the move will give him more time to adequately prepare for the world cup qualifiers. “I can understand this decision. We have more time now to prepare our young boys. It is not all bad.

“There is a positive side in all this, and we have time for some friendlies and also for the beginning of the World Cup qualifiers.

Normally we will begin in November with this, and I think we can follow the plan and still have time to the Afcon qualifiers starting in October, so it is a wise decision and it will be a big year in 2022,” concluded the African Nations Cup bronze-winning coach.
