The National Sports Commission (NSC) has expressed profound gratitude to four ministers in Nigeria’s federal cabinet for the roles they played in the successful disbursement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s rewards to two of the country’s successful teams.
Sports247 reports that the NSC’s appreciation came alongside a formal confirmation of the disbursement of the benefits to players, coaches and officials of the women’s basketball national team, D’Tigress, as well as an assurance that a similar gesture will soon be completed for the female football team, Super Falcons.

Details of the development were provided in a media statement by the NSC’s director of information and public relations, Dr (Mrs) Kehinde Ajayi, who officially confirmed the Commission’s payment of Naira equivalent of $100,000 to players of D’Tigress and $50,000 to officials, being the president’s promise to the team for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.
The NSC mrdia buff also disclosed that personal accounts of the players and officials were credited on September 9th, after which they all confirmed the receipt, following the team’s last match at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.
Ajayi stated further that this means all the rewards promised each member of the basketball team by Tinubu have been settled in full – being a three-bedroom flat in Abuja, Order Of The Niger (OON) national honours of OON and Naira equivalent of cash rewards.
“It is recalled that the players and officials of the D’Tigresses had, in February 2026 in Lyon, France during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers received from the National Sports Commission the title documents (CofO) of their 3-bedroom apartments in Abuja and certificates of national honours of OON.
“Similarly, the Super Falcons had received from the NSC the title documents (CofO) to their 3-Bedroom apartments in Abuja as well as certificates of national honours of OON during the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morroco in July/August 2026.
“Like the D’Tigresses, the Super Falcons should get the alerts for the Naira equivalent of $USD100,000 to players and $USD50,000 USD to the officials before their next official engagements to complete their presidential rewards as well,” the statement read in part.
Ajayi went on to thank President Tinubu for the ‘unprecedented rewards to the players and athletes,’ which she noted is in alignment with the administration’s Shared Prosperity Agenda and an impetus to the NSC’s reforms in line with the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE).
The statement ended with gratitude to the Minister of Finance; Minister of the FCT; Minister of Housing and Urban Development; as well as Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs.
Also included in the shower of accolades were Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, with due recognition given them all for what was referred to as their ‘support and collaboration with NSC to ensure Mr. President’s rewards to the teams were duly implemented in record time within the due process requirements.’
