It was a remarkable afternoon at Showtime Arena, Meadow Hall, Lekki, Lagos, as Ikan Sports overturned expectations, battled through adversity and finally conquered an opponent that had previously proved impossible for them to defeat.

The result was more than another Gameweek 5 victory. It was a breakthrough moment for a team determined to rewrite its story in Nigerian flag football.

Yet the contest was far from straightforward. The Raptors appeared firmly in control during the opening half, with quarterback Taiwo Oluwalanu directing an attack that repeatedly troubled the Ikan Sports defence.

Oluwalanu connected twice with Mustapha Babatunde for touchdowns before finding Osho Isreal for another score, helping Ibom Raptors establish a commanding 19–6 halftime lead.

At that stage, another Raptors victory appeared increasingly likely.

But Ikan Sports refused to surrender.

Their early breakthrough had come through Mukaila Rasheedat, who caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Umeh Chisom. Rasheedat would eventually claim the Match MVP award, finishing with one receiving touchdown, 21 receiving yards, a 7.4 performance rating and 2.8 fantasy points.

The second half brought renewed determination from Ikan Sports, with Timothy Atibile helping organise the offence and Chisom delivering a crucial 28-yard touchdown pass to Osasah Princess, cutting the deficit to 19–12.

That score provided a lifeline, and Ikan Sports ultimately completed a stunning turnaround to finish 31–19 winners.

Their defensive contributions were equally important. Olopoeniyan Yusuf and Praise Miene recorded interceptions during the encounter, disrupting the Raptors’ rhythm and creating opportunities for the eventual winners.

Despite the defeat, Babatunde topped the match’s fantasy standings with 7.4 points, followed by Oluwalanu on 6.6, while Ikan Sports receiver Chisom recorded 4.1.

For the Raptors, the loss represents a painful collapse after holding a 13-point halftime advantage. For Ikan Sports, it is a result that could transform belief within the squad as Season XV progresses.

The final whistle marked the end of a long wait and the beginning of a new chapter in this rivalry.

Ibom Raptors had the history. Cross River Ikan Sports seized the moment — and made history of their own.
