Sports247 gathered that the NSC’s resolve is that direct and cordial relations with the finance ministry would help to boost easier and proper funding of sports in the country.

This vision formed the basis of a recent visit by NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko to the minister of finance, Taiwo Oyedele for ‘strategic discussions’ on adequate funding of sports in the country.

It was another step by Dikko in his continued efforts towards ensuring full compliance by the NSC’s current leadership with President Bola Ahned Tinubu’s directives on resetting, redirecting, reviving and restructuring of sports in Nigeria.

The deliberations also centred on accelerating economic values that accrue to sports with true professionalism into all aspects as well as encouraging private sector initiatives in the sector.

A media statement from the NSC added, “The visit was to advance key initiatives aimed at unlocking sustainable financing for sports development, including the proposed Sports Infrastructure Development Bond.

“The engagement also forms part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts under the RHINSE framework to position sports as a national asset, attract private capital, accelerate infrastructure development and create long-term economic values across the sports ecosystem.”

Sports247 gathered further that the latest round of talks were meant to refresh memory and get accelerated results, as NSC’s top brass had also held a similar meeting with the former minister of finance, Wale Edun.
