NPFL resumption date to be announced soon – Dikko

League Management Company chairman Malam Shehu Dikko has assured football lovers in the country that a decision will soon be taken in earnest to decide the kick off date of the new Nigeria Professional Football League season.

The season had earlier been scheduled to begin on December first and second across the various regions in the country but has been unable to start as the LMC have been at loggerheads with organizers of the Nigeria National League (NNL) who have insisted that provisions must be made to accommodate the top eight teams coming from the lower league.

Speaking with Sports247.ng Dikko who also doubles as the NFF 2nd Vice President said several issues including the NNL proposals stalled the process, but he revealed the NFF will make an official statement on the league in the coming days.

Organizers of the NNL have insisted that eight teams will be promoted from the second division league as supposed to four proposed by the LMC in order to have an abridged league that consists of 24 teams. The NNL are yet to fix a date for the commencement of the Super 8 a competition that will help the league body in selecting the top for teams to gain automatic promotion to the top flight league.

The 2017/2018 NPFL season was an inconclusive one as Lobi Stars were given the mantle to represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League after 24 league games.
