The event, taking place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, holds particular significance as it also serves as a tribute to the late Dr. Awoture Eleyae, former Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa.

Having narrowly missed the qualification ticket in three previous attempts, the pressure is on for the Nigerian sprinters to deliver a flawless performance.

Godson Brume, the United States-based sprinter, emphasized that there is no room for error this time, stressing the importance of seamless baton exchanges in their relay.

Brume, who has shown unwavering commitment by staying with the team rather than returning to his base, expressed optimism in the abilities of his teammates to succeed.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Delta State government have been working diligently to provide opportunities for the team after a mix-up in their baton exchange thwarted their chances in the last event in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

The team is determined to follow in the footsteps of their female counterparts, who have already secured three out of the five relay qualification tickets for the World Athletics Championship.

The women’s 4x100m, 4x400m, and the mixed relay teams have demonstrated their prowess and clinched their spots in Budapest.

Chief Solomon Ogba, a two-time former AFN President and Vice President of the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) has rallied behind the men’s 4x100m relay team, urging them to seize this last opportunity to book their ticket to Budapest.

With the right strategy and focused teamwork, the Nigerian sprinters aim to achieve redemption and make their nation proud on the global stage.

As the Warri Grand Prix unfolds, the eyes of the athletics community in Nigeria, The Gambia, and the Benin Republic will be fixed on the performance of the men’s 4x100m relay team.

The event not only symbolizes their quest for qualification but also stands as a tribute to a respected figure in African sports, Dr. Awoture Eleyae.

With anticipation building and hopes running high, the athletes are ready to push their limits and deliver a spectacular display of speed, precision, and determination.

As the competition unfolds in Asaba, the world waits to see if Nigeria’s men’s 4x100m relay team can rise to the occasion and secure their place among the best on the grand stage of the Budapest 2023 World Athletics Championship.
