Team Nigeria has emerged as the standout nation at the ongoing Confederation of African Cycling Championships taking place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja.
The 2026 edition of the championships has attracted elite cyclists from across Africa, including strong cycling nations such as Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Algeria, and hosts Nigeria.
After two days of intense competition, Team Nigeria sits proudly at the top of the medals table with an impressive total of 16 medals—9 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals.
The dominant performance has placed Nigeria ahead of Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, and Algeria, further strengthening the country’s growing reputation as one of Africa’s emerging cycling powers.
Egypt currently occupies second place with 14 medals, while Kenya sits third with 9 medals. South Africa and Algeria complete the top five positions on the standings.
Nigerian cyclists have thrilled spectators at the velodrome with displays of speed, endurance, technical quality, and determination, drawing loud support from home fans throughout the competition.
The championships have also once again highlighted the quality of the cycling facilities at the Abuja velodrome, which continues to receive praise from athletes, officials, and visiting delegations.
Nigeria previously hosted the 2021 and 2023 editions of the championships, reinforcing the country’s growing role as a major destination for cycling events on the continent.
This year’s competition has attracted over 100 cyclists from eight African countries, all battling for medals, pride, and continental glory.
With Team Nigeria already setting the pace on home soil, expectations remain high for the host nation to add even more medals as the championships continue in Abuja.
