Nigeria’s Para Badminton team produced a dominant display at the 2026 Uganda Para Badminton International Championship, finishing with an impressive haul of 14 medals comprising nine gold and five silver medals.

The championship, held from July 7 to 12 in Uganda, saw Team Nigeria reaffirm its status as one of Africa’s emerging powerhouses in para badminton.
The outstanding performances cut across the wheelchair and standing categories.
Leading the charge was Lyka Brown, who claimed gold in the WH1 Women’s Singles before partnering Chukwuemeka Ijeoma Gift to secure another gold in the WH1 & WH2 Women’s Doubles.
Gift also emerged champion in the WH2 Women’s Singles, adding a third gold medal to Nigeria’s tally.
Emmanuel Ifeanacho Ohaeri continued Nigeria’s dominance in the wheelchair events by winning the WH2 Men’s Singles title and combining with Brown to capture gold in the WH1 & WH2 Mixed Doubles.
He also teamed up with Ekeoma Samuel to claim silver in the WH1 & WH2 Men’s Doubles.
Samuel added two more silver medals to Nigeria’s collection after finishing runner-up in the WH1 Men’s Singles and partnering Gift in the WH1 & WH2 Mixed Doubles.
In the standing categories, Obinna Precious Nwosu won gold in the SL3 Men’s Singles, while compatriot Eze Sunday Chukwuebuka settled for silver in the same event.
Nnanna Jeremiah Chigozie also struck gold in the SL4 Men’s Singles before pairing with Eze Sunday Chukwuebuka to win the SL3 & SU5 Men’s Doubles title.
Eneojo Elijah Agada completed Nigeria’s golden run in the SU5 Men’s Singles and later teamed up with Obinna Precious Nwosu to earn silver in the SL3–SU5 Men’s Doubles.
Reacting to the team’s outstanding outing, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, commended the athletes for their exceptional performances and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.
Orbih said the impressive medal haul reflects the steady progress of para badminton in Nigeria and further strengthens the country’s reputation on the African stage ahead of upcoming continental and global competitions.
Nigeria’s nine-gold, five-silver finish is another significant milestone for the country’s para badminton programme, highlighting the depth of talent within the national team as it continues to make its mark on the international circuit.
