Nigeria Boxing Federation President Edun Confident of Podium Finish as Six Boxers Target Commonwealth Games Glory

The President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, Hon. Wale Edun, has expressed confidence that the country’s boxing team will deliver outstanding performances and secure podium finishes at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

Nigeria will be represented by six boxers at the Games, with the squad made up of three male and three female athletes. The team consists of five home-based boxers and one foreign-based boxer, reflecting the federation’s blend of local talent and international experience.

Ahead of the competition, the Nigerian contingent will depart for Aberdeen, Scotland, where the boxers will undergo a three-week intensive training camp designed to fine-tune their preparations. Following the camp, the team will move to Glasgow for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which will take place from July 23 to August 2.

Speaking on the team’s prospects, Edun said the federation has made adequate preparations to ensure the athletes are in peak condition before stepping into the ring.

He expressed optimism that the boxers possess the quality, determination, and fighting spirit required to compete against some of the best fighters from across the Commonwealth.

The boxing federation boss also urged Nigerians to rally behind the athletes as they embark on their quest for medals, noting that the encouragement of fans will serve as extra motivation for the team.

Edun believes the combination of rigorous training, disciplined preparation, and the commitment of the athletes will translate into positive results in Scotland.

He maintained that the boxers are determined to uphold Nigeria’s proud boxing tradition and contribute to the country’s overall medal haul at the Games.

“We are confident that our boxers will make Nigeria proud. They have trained hard and will continue their preparations in Scotland before the Games begin. We believe they have what it takes to compete for medals and bring honour to the country,” Edun said.

Nigeria has a rich history of success in boxing at major international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games, and the federation hopes the 2026 squad will continue that tradition by delivering memorable performances and returning home with medals.
