Eguavoen added that the training programme, which was organised by the Delta State Football Association (DSFA) in collaboration with the NFF, was designed as part of efforts to improve coaching standards and nurture young talents at the grassroots.

Delta State Sports Commission’s director-general, Emuobo Egalase added that the training programme, which was sponsored by FPG Technology and Solutions Limited, was a major opportunity for youth club coaches who are yet to obtain coaching licences to become certified.

Egalase added that it also accored them the chance to gain modern coaching techniques, player development strategies and technical knowledge required to meet CAF standards, while highlighting the commitment of stakeholders to capacity building and sustainable football development in Delta State.

Eguavoen, who led the team of facilitators, alongside fellow-former Super Eagles’ star and CAF technical instructor, Edema Fuludu, further disclosed that the course featured a blend of classroom lectures and practical field sessions.

He added that other portions of the course covered Laws of the Game, safeguards against injuries, coaching methodology, player development and practical demonstrations aimed at improving coaching competence.

The ex-international defender and Eagles’ former captain further assured all participants that the NFF remains committed to developing football by continually investing in the education of coaches, who in turn would impact players at the grassroots.

“It is our responsibility to ensure football develops through well-trained coaches. Please take this programme seriously and do not disappoint those who have made it possible, because there are many more opportunities ahead,” said Eguavoen, who also encouraged the coaches to make the most of the opportunity and justify the confidence reposed in them.
