Phase two of the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) youth camp will open this Wednesday in Benin City, with the main focus of invited players and coaches on the upcoming Wedt African zonal championship in Burkina Faso, Sports247 reports.
Heading into the upcoming camping and training programme in the capital of Edo State, the general manager of Nigeria’s national teams, Musa Adamu said the programme will basically be preparations for the FIBA U18 Zone 3 qualifiers scheduled for July 4th to 15h.
NBBF’s technical committee chairman, Babs Ogunade added that the under-18 boys’ national team pre-selection camp, which is a critical phase in the stated preparations, will hold until July 3rd in the sports hall of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
He added that the selection exercise will provide an opportunity for national team coaches to assess technical abilities, physical status, mental readiness, character traits and overall suitability of the invited lads to represent Nigeria.
On his part, Adamu emphasised the programme’s significance in strengthening Nigeria’s basketball pipeline for talented young players, who will participate in the Benin City camp under the guidance of Coach Ikima Michael and his assistants.
“The Federation has invested significant effort into talent identification over the past several months. The players invited to Benin City have earned this opportunity through their performances and potential.
“This camp will determine the team that represents Nigeria in Burkina Faso, while also serving as part of a broader strategy to build a competitive program capable of succeeding at the continental level,” Adamu submitted.
