National Sports Commission Targets Peak Performances By Team Nigeria At Glasgow 2026

National Sports Commission (NSC) director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade has disclosed that efforts are already in motion to ensure that the country’s athletes put up peak performances at this year’s Commonwealth Games.

Sports247 reports that, with the Games in Glasgow, Scotland fast approaching, in which 10 sporting events will hold from August 23rd July to 2nd, Olopade disclosed that Team Nigeria will have an intensive four-week training camp.

While affirming that the strategy will ensure optimal performances by Nigeria’s athletes, Olopade further disclosed that a training base has been secured for the contingent in Aberdeen, Scotland to eliminate last-minute challenges.

The NSC’s DG pointed out that making advance preparations for the Games comes through lessons learnt from previous international competitions, with considerations given to issues of acclimatisation, technical input and team bonding.

He further explained that the preparations are being guided by Elite Podium Board recommendations, which guide the National Sports Commission’s commitment to professionalism, planning and seamless transition into competition mode.

Olopade added, “We have deliberately positioned our preparation camp close to the competition to allow athletes to settle early and train under similar conditions. Experience has shown us that last-minute movements can be disruptive.

“This time, we are prioritising stability, structure, and proper coordination. Our goal is to remove avoidable stress from athletes and technical crew. By planning early, we are taking measures to support peak performance when it matters most.”
