Venues earmarked for the games include Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere; Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan; and Rowe Park, Yaba, as well as sports centres across Ifako, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe, Agege and Badagry, all of which Omotosho believes will stand the test of time.

His enthusiasm has been backed by National Sports Commission (NSC) director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade, who commended the strides taken so far by the government of Lagos State ahead of the impending gathering of youths from all across the country.

Olopade declared emphatically that everything is moving as planned towards the commencement of healthy hostilities and praised the state government for its commitment towards ensuring they host a very successful and memorable competition in the month of October.

‘DG’ added, “It is significant that the first National Sports Festival was hosted in Lagos, and now the maiden National Intermediate Games will also take place here. The state’s track record speaks for itself.

“Lagos has shown tremendous commitment to hosting the maiden National Intermediate Games. What we have seen gives us confidence that the state is prepared to deliver a competition of the highest standards.

“In the last one year alone, Lagos became the first African city to host the E1 Powerboat World Championship and recently hosted the Davis Cup back-to-back for the first time in nearly two decades.

“The National Intermediate Games is a critical component of athlete development. It bridges the gap between youth and elite competition. We are encouraged by the level of collaboration we have received from Lagos State.”
