Ismaila Mabo’s Son Talks Tough, Eyes NNL Super-4 Title As Coach Of Doma United

Nigerian female national team, Super Falcons’ former coach, Ismaila Mabo is bound to get another kind of symbolic honour in the round leather game, as one of his sons is gunning for the Nigerian National League (NNL) title as a club gaffer.

Sports247 reports that the name that will soon ring a very loud bell in the annals of Nigerian football is that of Najib Mabo, who is in charge of Doma United of Gombe at this year’s NNL Super-4 in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Sports247 caught up with Coach Najib during his team’s first training session at Remo Stars Stadium, and the humble tactician declared that he wants to follow his father’s footsteps as a winner, starting with the second-tier trophy this week in the serene countryside of Ikenne.

Najib Mabo, who also revealed that he joined Doma United a year ago from Mighty Jets of Jos and he was not in charge of the private-owned outfit when they got relegated from the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), adnitted his strong desire to win the top-flight title next season.

He told Sports247 in an exclusive interview that he and his players are fully focused on lifting the NNL trophy and N10m prize on Friday, especially with adequate backing they are receiving from the club’s management.

“I know the level of preparation in Doma United, and I know what we can do. Every team that qualified for this competition must be good for them to be here, but we want to be number one.

“We know we must not underrate any other team. We want to win, but I know we cannot be a champion on a platter of gold. We must work very hard for it.

“It’s a tournament of champions, and we all worked hard to get here. The other three teams also want to win, but I know what my players can do at Doma United.

“That’s why I am very optimistic that we are going to win this competition, by the grace of God,” affirmed Coach Najib, who added that he expects referees to be free and fair in all the Super-4 matches this week.
