Sports247 reports that the 34-year-old athlete took a look back at her feat and declared that God has been very good to her, even as she set her sight on achieving another milestone at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.
Okon George also admitted her delight in playing a leadership role with younger athletes in the Nigerian team, as she anchored the 4x400m mixed squad to continental victory, then pointed out that their execution made all the difference.
She combined well with Ezekiel Asuquo, Toheebat Jimoh and Victor Imeh, following which she urged younger members of the team to stay focused and keep training harder in order to achieve true success in their careers.
“To the young ones in the team, my advice to them, as a very experienced athlete, is to stay focused on their goal. The 4x400m mixed has always been for Nigeria. It was all about execution, right from the first leg to the end, just the way we planned it.
“Ahead of the Commonwealth Games, I’m trying to build my race because I know that God has been so faithful to me, making me run my very best. I believe this year will be very good for me, and with God, everything is possible,” she posited.
Sports247 reports further that Okon George, who competed in the 400m at the 2015 World Championship in Beijing, China and 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a two-time African Championships bronze medallist in the event.
