Fencing Federation Takes Fresh Step To Encourage ‘Inclusive Visibility’ Of Female Coaches In Nigeria

Fencing Federation of Nigeria has taken another step towards promoting inclusive involvement of females in the sport, with a programme that aims to boost the ‘visibility’ of women coaches.

Sports247 reports that the federation’s latest female development effort comes in the form of a forthcoming virtual training session for female coaches and administrators in the sport, during which they will get another opportunity to learn new ideas.

The session, which has been described as the latest innovation and initiative to get more Nigerian women involved in fencing at home and abroad, is also the third edition of the federation’s Women In Coaching Online Session.

The virtual programme, which is part of the fencing federation’s ongoing efforts to encourage gender equality as well as empower women to take active part in technical and administrative aspects of the sport, will take place on the 30th of this month.

A statement by the organisers revealed, “The virtual programme will bring together women fencing coaches, administrators and leading international figures to discuss leadership, career growth, technical development and practical coaching skills.

“The session will be hosted by Nigeria’s Bola Suru, with Laura Simon of Malaysia as co-host. A major highlight will be an intensive practical épée coaching session led by Dr Gennady Tyshler, fencing master, coach educator and president of FIE Coaches Council.

“Participants will have the opportunity to learn directly from one of the world’s most respected experts on modern methods and athlete development, aimed at building capacity and visibility for women in fencing.”
