Alverca left-back Isaac James has described his Super Eagles debut as a special moment after making his first senior appearance for Nigeria in the international friendly against Russia.
Sports247 reports that the 22-year-old defender was handed his opportunity on the international stage as Nigeria continued preparations under head coach Eric Chelle, marking the beginning of what James hopes will be a long career with the national team.
Reflecting on the milestone, James expressed his delight at finally wearing the famous green and white at senior level while setting his sights on more appearances for the Super Eagles.
“Making my Super Eagles debut is always special, and I will be hoping this is the beginning of many more appearances for Nigeria.”
For the Alverca defender, the appearance represents an important step in his development and a reward for his progress at club level.
James showed glimpses of his qualities during his first taste of senior international football, gaining valuable experience against a Russian side in a fixture that provided another opportunity for Nigeria’s emerging players to stake their claim.
At 22, the left-back is part of a new generation of Nigerian players looking to establish themselves within the Super Eagles setup. His debut against Russia could therefore serve as the foundation for a sustained international career.
The defender will now return to club football with Alverca, carrying with him the experience of representing Nigeria at senior level for the first time.
For James, however, the significance of the moment goes beyond one appearance. Making his Super Eagles debut fulfils an important ambition and opens the door to what he hopes will be many more opportunities in the national colours.
With his first cap now secured, the young defender will be determined to continue improving and remain in contention for future Super Eagles selections.
The journey has officially begun for Isaac James — and, as he put it, he hopes this is only the beginning of many more appearances for Nigeria.
