All three levels of Nigeria’s women’s national teams – senior, youth and cadet categories – the Super Falcons, Flaconets and Flaamingos have all received charges to go all out in order to win their respective upcoming international competittions.
Sports247 reports that the charge came from the executive committee of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) during its meeting at Best Western Plus Hotel in Asaba, Delta State on Saturday, during which many far-reaching decisions were taken.
A statement by the NFF’s communication’s department disclosed that the exco members, who ‘deliberated on important issues in Nigeria football,’ charged the Falcons to win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for a record extending 11th time.
The committee also urged the Falconets to win the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup for the first time, when they go for this year’s competition in Poland come September, while also urging the Flamingos to achieve a similar feat at the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
“Nigeria Football Federation put in place a Welfare Committee for the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons’ participation at the 14th Women Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Morocco 26th July – 16th August 2026.
“The Committee charged the girls to go all out and make Nigeria proud by not only winning a ticket to next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil, but also retain the trophy for a record-extending 11th triumph in African football’s flagship women’s competition.
“Similarly, the Executive Committee challenged the U20 girls, Falconets, to set for themselves a target of becoming the first Nigeria team to win the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup when they participate in the final tournament in Poland in September.
“It directed the Secretariat to ensure adequate preparations for the girls ahead of the competition, while reminding the team that Nigeria has won silver medals on two occasions from the competition, in 2010 and 2014.
“The Executive Committee congratulated the U17 Women National Team, Flamingos, for qualifying for this year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals following a 5-3 defeat of their Beninese counterparts in Lome, Togo on Saturday.
“The win ensured aggregate victory of 8-5 for Nigeria in the final round of the qualifying series, and Nigeria will once again feature at the tournament to be hosted by Morocco later this year,” a communique issued after the meeting on Saturday stated in part.
Sports247 reports further that the NFF’s executive committee also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving Nigeria as host of the next Confederation of African Football (CAF) ordinary general congress and the annual awards ceremony.
The committee also commended National Sports Commission (NSC) for its recent support in the area of salary issues affecting home-based players through a special intervention fund for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and strict enforcement of domestic club licensing regulations.
