In a bid to revitalize sports development and restore Enugu State to its former glory as a hub for champions, Governor Dr. Peter Mbah has announced an ambitious sports agenda for 2024.

During a visit by Sports Minister John Enoh, the governor outlined the state’s commitment to hosting its sports festival as a pivotal step in preparation for the upcoming National Sports Festival (NSF), where Enugu aims for a top-three finish.
Expressing concern over the decline in sports development within the state, Governor Mbah emphasized that the current positions held by Enugu do not align with its rich history as a home for sporting legends across various disciplines.
To address this, the administration has formulated a comprehensive state sports policy, viewing sports not merely as recreation but as a substantial business and investment platform.
Governor Mbah revealed plans to host a sports summit in 2024, showcasing Enugu’s investment potential in sports. The summit aims to attract stakeholders and investors to tap into the state’s sports sector.
He emphasized the need to view sports as a revenue-generating sector, aligning with the strategy adopted by the Federal Government.
Mbah articulated, “We have raw and unharnessed talents, which we want to groom to become world talents. Our target is to come within the top three in the next National Sports Festival, and our internal sports festival next year will play a crucial role in building a formidable team to make Enugu State proud.”
