President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), Wale Edun, has expressed strong confidence that Team Nigeria’s boxing contingent will return home with medals from the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
With Nigeria set to field six boxers at the Games, Edun believes months of intensive preparation have positioned the team to compete for podium finishes against some of the Commonwealth’s best fighters.
The boxing event is one of the most anticipated competitions at the Games, with Nigeria looking to build on its rich tradition of producing world-class boxers and adding to its impressive Commonwealth medal haul.
“Our target is to finish on the podium. The boxers have prepared very well, and we’re confident they are ready to compete at the highest level,” Edun said.
The federation president praised the commitment of the athletes and coaching crew throughout the build-up to the Games, noting that the focus has been on ensuring the team arrives in Glasgow in peak physical and mental condition.
Edun also acknowledged the support provided by the National Sports Commission (NSC), whose early camping programme has allowed Team Nigeria’s athletes to fine-tune preparations ahead of the multi-sport event.
“We have six boxers representing Nigeria, and we believe every one of them has the potential to challenge for medals. They’ve worked hard, and now it’s time to showcase their quality,” he added.
Nigeria has enjoyed success in boxing at previous Commonwealth Games, with the sport consistently contributing to the country’s overall medal tally.
As Team Nigeria intensifies its final preparations in Scotland, Edun remains optimistic that the nation’s boxers will once again make Nigerians proud by delivering strong performances and competing for medals on one of the biggest stages in international sport.
