Flamingos: Akeem Busari Fires Warning To Benin, Reveals Nigeria’s Plan For Return Leg

Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari has warned that Nigeria will be a different side in the return leg against Benin Republic, insisting his team is determined to finish the job and secure qualification despite their narrow first-leg victory.

The Flamingos edged their West African rivals in the first meeting but were made to work hard throughout the contest, with Busari admitting the encounter exposed areas his players must improve before the decisive return fixture.

Nigeria, one of Africa’s most successful women’s youth teams, is bidding to secure another appearance at the CAF U-17 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which also serves as the qualification pathway to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

«”The return leg gives us another opportunity to respond. The first game tested us in different situations, but I’m happy with the way the girls reacted,” Busari said.»

The experienced tactician acknowledged that his side created several opportunities but failed to convert enough of them, promising that the technical crew would work on improving the team’s finishing ahead of the second leg.

Busari stressed that despite taking a slim advantage into the return fixture, the tie remains far from over and warned against any form of complacency.

«”It’s still all to play for. We’ll correct our mistakes, especially in front of goal, and make sure we’re fully prepared for the next match,” he added.»

The former Nigerian youth coach expressed confidence in his players’ ability to deliver another strong performance, insisting the Flamingos remain focused on achieving their ultimate objective of qualifying for the continental championship.

With qualification still hanging in the balance, Busari believes improved decision-making in the final third and greater composure in front of goal will be key as Nigeria looks to complete the job against Benin Republic.
