Chidera Amuji Follows Samuel Chukwueze’s Footsteps, Shakes Heartland FC In FA Cup

A youngster from Ezeagu in Enugu State, Chidera Daniel Amuji is following the same path that took Fulham of England winger, Samuel Chukwueze, into global stardom, Sports247 reports.

This comes from an amazing revelation that the enterprising lad, who was born in Lagos but now lives in Owerri, Imo State, is a natural left-footer like Chukwueze and previously starred in the same football academy that produced the Super Eagles’ star.

Amuji told Sports247 that he spent almost five years at Diamond Football Academy and trained regularly with the team at Government College, Umuahia, from where Chukwueze got his breakthrough to the Golden Eaglets’ squad that won the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile.

Before then, Amuji, a versatile player who can feature as outside right, attacking midfielder and left-wing-back, played for Blue Sport Academy in Ikorodu, which helped him develop a strong foundation for his fledgling football career.

Amuji, who has previously travelled to Ghana, Egypt and Spain for football trials, is now plying his trade with Comets FC, which is the junior squad for Heartland of Owerri, against whom he dazzled brilliantly on Wednesday in the Imo State FA Cup semi-finals.

Although he had to play as left-back in the game, due to an injury copped by the regular player in that position, Amuji put up a brilliant show that helped Comets keep the scoreline tight, but his team still lost 1-0 to the government-owned Heartland.

Amuji retorted, “I am happy that I was able to play to the best of my ability in that game. I’m sure that I would have done better in my normal position, but I still tried in the match, and I even got injured.”

A strong hint has now emerged that Heartland are already in the hunt for Amuji’s signature, but the youngster confessed that his target is to travel abroad, especially to a top club in Spain.

“I’m not thinking of playing in Nigeria again, because I want to start playing in Europe. I’ve gone for trials in Egypt, Ghana and Spain. Now I want a concrete offer.

“I first travelled to the UK for football trials when I was in primary school. It shows that my target for a club in Europe has been long. That was the reason why I went to Diamond Football Academy.

“I did not meet Chukwueze at the academy, but I met him when he came for holiday. I like his game and I also like Ousmane Dembele. I want to sign for Barcelona and play at the World Cup. I pray that God will answer my prayers,” said Amuji, who grew up in Idimu area of Lagos.
