Super Eagles’ coach, Eric Sekou Chelle has promised to give opportunities to any good player who can fit into the tactical philosophy and progressive vision he has for the Nigerian national team, Sports247 reports.
Speaking ahead of the official unveiling of his squad list for the impending 2026 Unity Cup in London, Chelle acknowledged the need to test new players and young talents at the four-nation invitational competition.
However, the Franco-Malian tactician stressed that it is not an all-comers affair, as only players who meet up to his expectations would get the chance of donning Nigeria’s green-and-white jersey at Charlton Athletics’ Valley Stadium.
Chelle told TBC News, “There is a lot of pressure. Nigeria is blessed with a lot of talent, but not everyone can play at the same time. My responsibility is to give opportunities to players who fit into our philosophy and vision of becoming the best.”
Sports247 reports further that the Super Eagles will next face Poland and Portugal during the international window in June, ahead of which Chelle confessed that he would not like to experiment with fresh talent.
The former Mali and MC Oran of Algeria gaffer said he would prefer lining out of his key players for both high-profile encounters, as both games will play a big role in improving Nigeria’s standing in FIFA’s monthly rankings.
“For the big warm-up games in June against Poland and Portugal, I will feature my first team players. These are games that can push up the global ranking if we win them,” said Chelle, who has spent recent time monitoring home-based players.
