The president of Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has expressed optimism that the country will clinch many medals at this year’s world championship in Kazakhstan, as he believes the contingent has what it takes to excel.
Sports247 reports that Adeniyi, who is also the Comptroller-General of Nigerian Customs, urged the contingent to prove him right with their performances at the 2026 World Wrestling Championship in the East European nation.
While giving details of his expectations from the team’s outing in Astana, Kazakhstan from this Sunday until the next, November 1st, Adeniyi enthused that all of Nigeria’s 11 wrestlers will return home with medals.
He added that the team of eight female wrestlers and three males should do all they can to represent the country with pride and strive for victory on the global stage, as they translate their African dominance into top performances at the world level.
The wrestling boss then mentioned the need for Nigeria to become a strong force at the international level and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver impressive results with determination and discipline.
Adeniyi retorted, “We must represent Nigeria with pride and strive for victory on the global stage. Having dominated the African continent, the time has come for us to translate that success into outstanding performances at the world level.
“The federation has high expectations for this team, and we believe the athletes have what it takes to make Nigeria proud and restore the country’s medal-winning fortunes at the World Wrestling Championships.”
Sports247 reports further that Adeniyi hopes that the country’s 11 grapplers in Kazakhstan will end Nigeria’s three year lack of medals at the World Wrestling Championships and give a reflection of progress being achieved in the sport.
