Local Organising Committee Secretary, Olabiyi Christopher Oladipupo charged players at the maiden edition of the Invincible Cup 2026 After-Party and Prize-Giving Ceremony held at TopChoice (Semiaq Royal) Hotel & Suites, Ifo Ogun State.
The ceremony brought together players, coaches, organisers, stakeholders and invited guests to celebrate the achievements of the participating teams while reflecting on the maiden edition and unveiling plans for the future of the grassroots football competition.
The Chief Host subsequently presented cash prizes to the two finalists, Santos Sports Academy and Winning Stars FA, officially bringing the prize-giving segment to a close.
Speaking with Sports247 on the preparations for the 2027 edition, LOC Welfare Officer Mrs. Tella Racheal disclosed that the Invincible Cup is expected to expand from its maiden edition to a 32-team competition, with the tournament scheduled to take place in August or September 2027, courtesy of the Chief Host and management of TopChoice Hotel & Suites.
Tella also acknowledged some of the challenges experienced during the maiden edition, particularly in the area of officiating. She assured stakeholders that the LOC would implement measures aimed at raising the standard of officiating in the next edition.
According to her, the organisers are considering recognition awards and cash prizes for outstanding match officials as part of efforts to encourage professionalism, commitment and excellence.
Meanwhile, Olabiyi revealed that the organisers are exploring opportunities to connect outstanding players from the competition with several league clubs across Nigeria, providing a potential pathway for talented youngsters to progress beyond grassroots football.
He, however, urged the players to understand that football should not be their only focus, encouraging them to acquire education, vocational skills and other productive abilities that could prepare them for life beyond the sport.
“Do not rely solely on football. Prepare yourself for life both within and outside the sport,” he advised.
Olabiyi further emphasised the importance of discipline and professionalism, urging players to maintain good conduct both on and off the pitch.
In another major development, the organisers announced that no unregistered coach would be allowed to participate in the 2027 edition, with strict compliance with competition rules and regulations to be enforced.
The After-Party therefore served not only as a celebration of the champions and runners-up but also as a platform to review the maiden edition and establish a clear roadmap for the continued development of grassroots football in Ifo.
