Bayelsa State will not feature in the male and female football events of the maiden National Intermediate Games in Lagos, as both squads failed to qualify from the South-South team elimination competitions.
Sports247 reports that, though Bayelsa State could not scale through both football categories, the contingent from Yenagoa still picked a total of eight tickets in other team events, after two days of competition in Calabar, Cross River State.
The biggest surprise came from abula, which booked qualification in both the male and female categories, as the men placed first ahead of Delta State, while the women also made it despite finishing second.
Bayelsa’s volleyball females emerged top after defeating Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Delta States, while the beach volleyball boys made it with wins over Rivers and Akwa Ibom, but the females failed to qualify.
Bayelsa were second in women’s basketball behind Delta, following which handball picked slots in both the men and women cadres, while the female hockey side finished second to secure qualification.
The eight events Team Bayelsa qualified for are abula men and women; volleyball women; handball men and women; beach volleyball men; basketball women as well as hockey women.
The Prosperity State, though, could not qualify for women beach volleyball, male volleyball, male basketball, male hockey as well as male and female football.
