The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been hit by a growing injury concern ahead of their September 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures, with Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu and Tochukwu Nnadi among the players facing fitness issues.
Sports247 reports that the Nigeria are scheduled to begin their AFCON qualifying campaign against Madagascar on September 25 before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau four days later, making the availability of key players an important concern for head coach Eric Chelle.

Osimhen’s situation has attracted particular attention after the Galatasaray striker was forced off during his side’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir. The Nigerian forward scored before leaving the pitch in the 33rd minute.
Galatasaray subsequently confirmed that medical examinations revealed an advanced-moderate strain, with bleeding, in Osimhen’s right adductor muscle group. His treatment is ongoing, leaving his participation in Nigeria’s September fixtures in serious doubt.
Onuachu also raised concerns after suffering an injury during Trabzonspor’s 5-0 victory over Genclerbirligi. The striker scored twice before being substituted in the 44th minute.
However, there appears to be some relief regarding the former Southampton forward. Trabzonspor interim coach Huseyin Cimsir has played down fears surrounding the injury, saying he does not believe Onuachu suffered a serious problem and suggesting there is no major concern over his condition.
Nnadi is also among the players already reported to be on Nigeria’s injury list, alongside Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Sadiq Umar and Zaidu Sanusi.
The developing situation could force Chelle to consider alternative options as Nigeria prepare for two demanding fixtures within four days.
While the Super Eagles boast several attacking alternatives, including players currently enjoying strong club form, Osimhen’s potential absence would represent a major setback given his importance to the national team.
Nigeria will hope the affected players recover quickly, with the September qualifying window fast approaching and the Super Eagles determined to make a strong start to their 2027 AFCON campaign.
