Former Rivers United and Enyimba head coach Stanley Eguma has been appointed as the new manager of Benin Republic Ligue Pro side Buffles du Borgou.
The CAF A Licence holder joins the Beninese club with an impressive coaching résumé, having established himself as one of Nigeria’s most successful and longest-serving football managers.
Eguma is best remembered for guiding Rivers United to the 2021/22 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, while also enjoying previous league success with Dolphins FC. His eight-year spell at Rivers United made him the longest-serving coach in the NPFL during that period.
After leaving Rivers United in 2024, the experienced tactician took charge of Enyimba before embarking on his first coaching assignment outside Nigeria with Buffles du Borgou.
Known for his tactical discipline and emphasis on defensive organisation, Eguma is expected to bring stability, experience and a winning mentality to the Beninese side as they prepare for the new Ligue Pro season.
Buffles du Borgou will be hoping the Nigerian coach can build a competitive squad capable of challenging for domestic honours and making an impact in Benin Republic’s top-flight league.
Eguma’s appointment also highlights the growing demand for Nigerian coaches across West Africa, with several home-grown tacticians taking up managerial roles in neighbouring countries in recent years.
The veteran coach now faces the challenge of adapting to a new football environment while aiming to replicate the success that made him one of the most respected figures in Nigerian club football.
His wealth of experience and proven track record are expected to play a key role in Buffles du Borgou’s ambitions for the upcoming campaign.
