Kelechi Iheanacho Chases Historic Scottish Double In Saturday’s FA Cup Final With Celtic

Celtic of Scotland attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho will be all out this Saturday to enact a historic feat of helping his side cap a title-winning campaign with the league and cup double during his first season with The Bhoys.

Sports247 reports that the campaign, which started off on a scary note with several injury setbacks for Iheanacho, is fast turning into bliss, following his conquest of the Scottish Premier League with the Glasgow-based side last weekend.

While Saturday’s league-winning feat is still fresh in mind, Iheanacho and his teammates will be in the hunt for another trophy exactly a week later, as they face Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup final on their home turf.

‘Senior Man Kelz’ heads into the game buoyed by memories of how he scored two late goals to help his side surge through a surprisingly difficult semi-final clash with Saint Mirren – an eight-goal thriller at Hampden that was settled in extra time.

With the match tied at 2-2, four goals in six minutes changed the story; first from the head of substitute Iheanacho and then the boot of Luke McCowan, after which the Super Eagles’ star netted a fifth and Benjamin Nygren later got his 20th goal of the season.

Saturday’s match will see Iheanacho’s coach, Martin O’Neill roll out his wards against his former midfield stalwart, Neil Lennon, in a repeat of the 2007 final, which The Pars lost 1-0 in their last appearance in the end of season showpiece.

As Iheanacho prepares for another big game this weekend, a report by BBC Sport noted in part, “Swept to victory by all but 750 of the 60,000-capacity crowd, Celtic’s fifth home win in a row cemented their place as champions.

“O’Neill’s side won their final seven matches – their longest run of the campaign. Celtic had only won the title three times from eight when they started a final-day decider in second place, but they were not to be denied a 14th crown in 15 years.

“O’Neill now leads his side to Hampden, where they will be strong favourites to complete the double against Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup final.”
