NOC President Habu Gumel Tasks Sports Federations On Long-term Planning For Sustained Development

The President of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engineer Habu Gumel has charged sports federations in the country to ensure they outline long-term strategies that would help them sustain continued development of their sectors.

Sports247 reports that Gumel spoke during two-day programme organized by Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) in Abuja, which he described as a useful platform for officials and stakeholders of the sport to refresh themselves.

The retreat discussed building a strategic framework for further development of badminton, with focus on grassroots expansion, technical advancement, gender inclusion, competition structures, business opportunities and athletes’ welfare.

Gumel commended the BFN’s for the steady progress badminton has recorded in recent years both locally and internationally, then stressed the importance of continuity and long-term planning in sustaining the growth of sports federations.

“Badminton is doing very well both in Nigeria and internationally, and the federation’s leadership has continued to position the sport positively so that our athletes can continue to make the country proud.

“Federations must continue to build structures that will sustain progress, nurture talents and ensure continuity. What badminton is demonstrating reflects vision, purpose and commitment to development,” Gumel asserted.
