Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) will soon set in motion a new strategy and method of approach that will see the country garner more international laurels in days to come, Sports247 reports.
This was revealed by the BFN’s newly re-elected president, Barrister Francis Orbih, who disclosed that the board is already looking into longer camping periods for the country’s teams and intensive exposure for young players.
Orbih noted that the badminton federation achieved a lot of strides during his first two tenures at the helm of affairs but promised that all previous efforts will be redoubled in order to make his third term better than all others before it.
The BFN’s top shot pledged, “We are going to keep on doing what we’ve been doing. In the past years, we’ve tried very much to put in adequate preparations, but we’ve not always been satisfied.
“So, this time around, we are going to improve on what we’ve been doing in the past. We’ve been camping players for one month, but I don’t see any reason why we can’t have a camp for three months to prepare them adequately for any event.”
Orbih also affirmed that there will be improved efforts from all board members, officials and coaches to encourage young players towards getting better results for Nigeria.
“We are going to strive more and lift the bar. We will do more than we’ve done in the past, and we know extra effort will give us better results.
“We need to expose our players. We learnt that recently when we went with a crop of very young players to Botswana for the All African Seniors.
“The players we took there had never had such an opportunity before, but they went through trials at home and defeated some older players.
“They then did very well when they got there. For first timers, what they did was amazing. So, we’ll consistently expose them to more competitions and, very soon, we will have more like Anu Opeyori.
“They are still young, but they are very determined and ready to learn. So, we are going to groom them; and I am very confident that they will continue to fly our flag very high in the coming months,” Orbih enthused.
