Motsepe revealed that the previous tournament in Côte d’Ivoire attracted an astounding global audience of more than 1.5 billion viewers across 180 countries — a record that highlighted the ever-increasing reach and influence of African football.
He said CAF is expecting even greater numbers this time, crediting improved broadcasting structures, increased global interest in African talents, and Morocco’s reputation for world-class sporting infrastructure.
The CAF president noted that AFCON has become more than a football tournament; it has evolved into a cultural celebration that unites millions of Africans in the diaspora.
He described the championship as a gathering point for Africans everywhere — from Europe, to North America, to Asia — who proudly follow the continent’s top teams and players.
Motsepe also praised Morocco’s hosting capacity, highlighting its upgraded stadiums, fan zones, logistics, and hospitality. According to him, the organizing committee has been working tirelessly to ensure that the competition delivers a seamless experience for players, officials, and supporters.
He added that the growth of African football is no longer limited to national teams alone but is being driven by the increasing success of African players in top global leagues and the constant evolution of coaching, refereeing, and administrative standards on the continent.
Motsepe concluded by expressing optimism that AFCON 2025 will open a new chapter in African football excellence, strengthening the game’s global image and demonstrating Africa’s unmatched passion, talent, and competitiveness on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
