The Nigeria National League (NNL) is setting its sights on a transformative 2025/2026 football campaign, officially announcing October 2025 as the season’s kickoff month following a high-level Board meeting held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, on Friday, July 11.
In a move signaling strategic continuity and reform, the Board also fixed the league’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the last week of August 2025, reinforcing its intent to build on the momentum of a competitive and commercially promising 2024/2025 season.

The meeting in Asaba served as a major pivot point for the second-tier league, as Board members reviewed the successes and setbacks of the just-concluded season while outlining a governance-forward roadmap aimed at improving operational efficiency and global alignment.
Leadership Endorsements and Renewed Mandate
One of the key highlights from the session was the Board’s acknowledgment of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for extending the tenure of the current NNL leadership. The Board reaffirmed its loyalty to the NFF and pledged to align with broader national football reforms that prioritize professionalism and talent development.
Adding to the celebratory tone, the Board extended warm congratulations to NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau on his appointment as President of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B), describing it as a well-earned testament to his influence in regional football administration.

With the 2024/2025 season now officially concluded, the NNL confirmed the promotion of four clubs to the top-tier Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL):

Clubs Owners under the Nigeria National League Clubs Owners Association (NALCOMA) were lauded for their cooperation and discipline, which helped maintain league stability throughout the season.
Push for Reforms and Constitutional Review
Looking ahead, the Board announced plans to set up a Constitution Review Committee to revise core aspects of the league’s Rules and Regulations. This move is expected to strengthen governance and drive reforms that will enhance the NNL’s competitiveness, credibility, and market value.
The Board also applauded improvements in match officiating, crediting the Nigeria Referees Association and NFF Referees Appointment Committee for raising officiating standards during the season.
