Nine-time African champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, have arrived in Casablanca, Morocco, ahead of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which kicks off on July 5 and runs through July 26 in the North African nation.
A bulk of the team, including seven players who touched down in Casablanca on Tuesday, are settling into camp as final preparations get underway.
Among the early arrivals are U.S.-based stars Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie, and Deborah Abiodun, alongside Chinwendu Ihezuo, Folashade Ijamilusi, Esther Okoronkwo, and new invitee Chioma Okafor.
The rest of the squad, led by interim head coach Justin Madugu, travelled from Lisbon to join the team following Monday’s goalless draw against Portugal in a preparatory friendly match.
That outing featured 17 players and gave the coaching crew a final opportunity to assess the team’s readiness ahead of the continental showdown.
With expectations high, the Super Falcons will now focus on adapting to Moroccan conditions and fine-tuning their strategies as they chase a 10th African title. Nigeria last won the WAFCON in 2018 and will be aiming to reclaim their crown after falling short in the last edition
