Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Ayegbeni has lifted the lid on two major talking points — the Premier League club he regrets not playing for, and a shocking encounter with an NFF official during his time with the national team.
Speaking in a recent interview, Yakubu was asked which top English club — between Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United — he would have loved to play for if he could turn back the clock.

Without hesitation, the former Everton star replied:
“Arsenal.”
Yakubu, who enjoyed a prolific Premier League career with Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, and Everton, admitted that the Gunners’ style of play under Arsène Wenger would have suited him perfectly.
But the ex-international also grabbed attention with a fiery story from his Super Eagles days, recalling how he and some teammates had to physically confront an NFF official to get their unpaid ticket refunds.
According to him:
“We held an NFF official by the waist and forced him to give us our ticket money. These set of Super Eagles players are ‘nice guys.’”
The comment has sparked fresh debate about the treatment of national team players back in the day, with Yakubu noting that the current generation appears far more tolerant of administrative issues.
Yakubu remains one of Nigeria’s most iconic forwards, scoring 21 goals in 58 caps for the Super Eagles.
